I listened to this playlist at night, in the middle of my pitch-black room and was met by a constant stream of dreamy, imaginary visuals that accompanied the instrumentation from the first track. I had a moment of overwhelm triggered by the vast collection of sounds moving around each other heavily in some of the tracks. Cartridge Music by John Cage was somewhat surprising to me; the distinct, almost “alien” sounds panned on either side evoked some feelings of slight discomfort that was met with intrigue. One of the sound pieces I was particularly fond of was Kits Beach Soundwalk by Hildegard Westerkamp. The first-person style of portraying the journey made it feel like I was crossing an auditory passage of little adventures. I’ve always been fascinated by Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) and some aspects of this, like the gentle moments of water sounds, reminded me of this tingly, sonic experience.
